In the USA, autonomous driving is developing noticeable momentum. Driverless cabs are already conquering significant parts of the market in major US cities: providers such as Alphabet's Waymo have achieved market shares of over 20% in San Francisco and 15% in Los Angeles (see chart).
In less than a year, driverless cabs have massively changed the market in the USA. They are taking valuable business away from ride services such as Uber and Lyft - not least thanks to particularly affordable subscriptions.
This exciting trend shows: Autonomous driving is no longer a distant vision of the future, but is already developing into a serious alternative in local traffic and the transportation sector.
For the time being, it remains unclear whether Tesla will even be able to successfully implement its long-delayed robotaxi project against this backdrop. Tesla is currently carrying out an important test run in Austin, Texas. However, the current conflict between Tesla CEO Elon Musk and US President Trump could put approval by the US authorities in doubt.
The race for the future of mobility therefore remains exciting. Stay tuned!
