CRISPR/Cas - Molecular gene scissors revolutionize biotechnology and medicine

Bad Homburg, 12/14/2023

It is considered one of the most important innovations in modern biology and has the potential to change the world on a massive scale - the CRISPR/Cas "gene scissors". This novel molecular biology process allows the genetic material of microorganisms, plants and animals, as well as humans, to be specifically edited relatively easily, quickly and inexpensively.

As a new universal tool in biotechnology, CRISPR has revolutionized research and development in many areas in just a decade - and, as an innovation accelerator, has paved the way for ground-breaking innovations, particularly in the field of medical diagnostics and therapy.

However, there is a fine line between curse and blessing with this new technology, because: What promises great medical advances on the one hand also harbors latent risks for the stability of entire ecosystems. There is also the danger of misuse, for example by unscrupulous "gene designers" or "rogue states".

The FERI Cognitive Finance Institute analyzes the enormous disruptive potential of CRISPR/Cas in this Cognitive Briefing, which is available in German in the download area of this page.
