The "Deep Fake" Challenge - How Digital Fakes Destroy Reality

Bad Homburg, 12/7/2021
by FERI Cognitive Finance Institute

The rapid development in the field of digital technologies already enables the creation of almost "perfect" fakes of photos, videos and other optical media. These reality-based images are growing into new threats known as "Deep Fakes" that can have tremendous radiant power.

Deep fakes are media content (photo, video, audio) that appears extremely realistic, but whose statements or actors are "fake", i.e. digitally generated or falsified. The original and the fake are often almost indistinguishable. The possible effects of deep fake technology are very far-reaching and could have a drastic impact on the economy, politics and society.
